Note: If you are starting with this lesson and are not using the lessons in order, you must first import the correct libraries archive found in the lesson folder. In the preferences panel under ‘Diagnostics’ click the ‘Import Libraries’ button and choose ‘library-lesson-8.phxlib

1. Import CF2 Die Template and Assign Artwork

Step 1 Create new job by clicking on the ‘+’ sign in the upper left portion of the Artboard or by selecting “New Job” from the File menu.

Step 2 Apply B1 Press by dragging the press from the Press panel onto the Artboard.

Step 3 – Go to File menu and select “Place Die Template...”

Step 4 In the File Dialog, select quackers-carton.cf2 from this lesson’s folder and click “Open”

Step 5 Click the Choose Artwork button in the Artboard Toolbar to select artwork to snap to die and select quackers-carton-red.pdf from this lesson’s folder and click “Open”

Artwork will be snapped automatically into the right position in the die

2. Create Product Name QR Code

Step 1 Open Marks Wizard by clicking on the ‘+’ sign in the Marks Panel

Alternative: Select “New Mark...” from the Libraries Menu.

Step 2 – Select “Barcode” in Mark Type list

Step 3 – Select “Smart Mark” under Mark Placement Type to make a rule-based barcode.

Step 4 – Select “Product” under Anchor to create a mark based off of product coordinates

Step 5 – Click “Continue”

Step 6 Under Symbology choose “QR Code” from the dropdown list

Step 7 – Click in the Content section and type the “<” character to see the list of availablekeywords and double-click on “<product” followed by “.name>”. The resulting text in Content should read “<product.name>”

Step 8 – Click “Continue” twice to get to Set Mark Name and Placement page

Step 9 – Enter “PRD_QR_NAME” in Name/Folder -> Name field and click “Done” to create the mark

3. Apply Product Name QR Code and Change Product Name

Step 1 – Click on “Products” button in the Artboard Toolbar or double-click on the “New Product 1” product in the Products Panel to enter Product View

Step 2 In Marks Panel, click on PRD_QR_NAME mark and drag it into the Artboard to apply the mark to the product

Step 3 In the Artboard, click on the QR code and drag it into the lower-left flap of the folding carton

The QR code will now be placed in the same location for all instances of the product in the layout

Step 4 In the Products Panel, right click on the product and select “Properties...”

Step 5 – Enter “PRD-12345” in the Name field and click “Ok”

Note: The QR code in the product has automatically updated with the new product name

4. Create and Apply Product Registration Mark

Step 1 Open Marks Wizard by clicking on the ‘+’ sign in the Marks Panel

Step 2 – Select “Registration” in Mark Type list

Step 3 – Select “Manual Mark” under Mark Placement Type to make a mark without built-in placement rules. The center of this mark will be placed at the position where it is dropped into the Artboard.

Step 4 – Click “Continue”

Step 5 Under Standard Registration Marks choose the cross with circle mark type and click “Continue”

Step 6 Under Mark Settings enter “10mm” for both Width and Height

Step 7 – Click “Continue” twice to get to Set Mark Name and Placement page

Step 8 – Enter “PRD_REG” in Name/Folder -> Name field and click “Done” to create the markNote: Since this is a Manual Mark there are no options for creating placement rules

Step 9 Back in the Marks Panel select the new PRD_REG mark and drag it into the lower-right flap of the folding carton in the Artboard

The mark will be synchronized across all instances of this product in the job layout

5. Applying Product Number Mark

Step 1 – Go to the Toolbox and select the Product Number Tool or press the ‘N’ key

Step 2 Click on the lower-right flap of the folding carton in the Artboard to add a Product Number mark.

Note: This mark will show up as “#” in Product View but each instance of the product will be updated with the corresponding product number in the job layout.

Step 3 Go to the Properties Panel with the number mark selected and change the font size from 24” to “16”

6. Changing Product Numbers

Step 1 – Go back to Layout View by clicking on the “Layout” button in the Artboard Toolbar

Step 2 – Go to Tools menu and select “Number Tool...”

Step 3 In the Number Tool Panel and click on Apply Allto change order to top-left row order

Step 4 Change the order method to second option, which will do column based ordering and click Apply Allagain

Step 5 Click Restart on every column and Include column number checkboxes to enable column-based numbering

Step 6 Change the second numbering type from number to capital letter and click Apply All

Note: The Product Number marks you added in the last section are getting updated automatically in the job layout

7. Saving and Loading Job Template

Step 1 Go to File menu and click on “Save as Template...” to save this job as a template to createsimilar jobs in the future

Step 2 You will see a warning explaining that job templates do not include artwork, click “OK” tocontinue

Step 3 In the file dialog, type the file name quackers-carton and click on “Save” to save thetemplate

Step 4 Now create a new job from the newly saved job template by going to File menu, clickingon “New Job from Recent Template...” and selecting quackers-carton.phxt

Step 5 A new job should now be loaded with the same marks and product numbers from the previous job. Click the Choose Artwork button in the Artboard Toolbar to select artwork to snap to die and select quackers-carton-silver.pdf from this lesson’s folder and click “Open”

Artwork will be snapped automatically into the right position in the die
